Updated January 2014

The Eastgate Regional ITS Architecture is a tool for ITS project planning and development for the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, which covers Mahoning and Trumbull Counties, over the next 15 years. The architecture was developed through a cooperative effort by the region's transportation agencies, covering all modes and all roads in the region.

This website is an update of the Youngstown-Warren Regional ITS Architecture, which was first developed in 2003 and was completed in Spring 2004. This update is a result of thorough and extensive stakeholder input gathered through a series of stakeholder interviews, with additional stakeholder input collected during architecture workshops on December 9, 2010, and a confirmation workshop on February 10, 2011. This architecture will guide the region in planning how the region's ITS systems will work together with other agencies in the future and how sharing of information and resources will help provide a safer, more efficient, and more effective transportation system for travelers in the region.

The architecture is an important new tool that will be used by:

  • Planning agencies to incorporate integration opportunities and operational needs into the transportation planning process;
  • Operating and implementing agencies to recognize and implement transportation integration opportunities in the Region; and
  • Other organizations and individuals that use the transportation system in the Region.

The architecture provides an overarching framework that spans all of these organizations and individual transportation projects. Using the architecture, each transportation project can be viewed as an element of the overall transportation system, providing visibility into the relationship between individual transportation projects and ways to cost-effectively build an integrated transportation system over time.

A maintenance update was made to this architecture in January 2014 in response to comments from Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments in Summer 2013. This maintenance update:

  • Updates ATMS04-1 Freeway Control
  • Adds a new APTS09-2 Transit Signal Priority market package
  • Removes the City of Newton Falls Traffic Signal Upgrade project architecture

A detailed summary of the maintenance update can be found here.

About this Web Site

The purpose of this ITS architecture web site is to organize the details of the architecture into a form that is more readily accessible to stakeholders. It will provide a method for stakeholders to access the architecture information in order to encourage use of the Eastgate Regional ITS Architecture in both transportation planning and project implementation. In addition, this website will be useful in gathering stakeholder feedback. The menu bar at the left provides access to the stakeholders, the transportation systems in the region (the "Inventory"), the transportation services that will be provided, transportation-related ITS functions that have been selected for the Region, and the existing and planned interfaces in the Region.

The majority of this web site was generated directly from a Turbo Architecture database that documents the architecture. The source database in Microsoft Access format can be found here.
