Projects

The Regional ITS Architecture provides a starting point for project definition. It provides an overall framework that shows how anticipated projects will integrate with each other and with existing systems. This page lists all the ITS projects that have been mapped to the regional ITS architecture.

City of Bloomfield RiverwalkPlannedShortThe City of Bloomfield Riverwalk will create a new retail center in Bloomfield. As part of this project, a new traffic signal will be installed, as well as CCTV.

City of Farmington Roadway LightingPlannedMediumThis project would upgrade the roadway lighting system for the City of Farmington. This would include installing LED street lights to provide power savings, and provide remote monitoring of the lighting system from the City of Farmington Traffic Operations Center.
City of Farmington RWISPlannedMediumThis project would deploy a RWIS system and connect it to both the City of Farmington Street and The City of Farmington Traffic Engineering
City of Farmington Signal Preemption UpgradePlannedMediumThis project would upgrade the signal preemption capabilities in the City of Farmington. This would modernize emergency signal preemption in the City of Farmington and allow the operations center to adjust signal timing.
City of Farmington Signal System Power UpgradePlannedMediumThis project would add Uniterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) to City of Farmington traffic signals.

Farmington Fire Department CCTVPlannedShortThis project would install CCTV on command and fire vehicles. The live video feed would be viewable at the San Juan County Communications Center.
Interstate CoordinationPlannedMediumThis project would tie in NMDOT District 5 TOC to Colorado and Arizona regional or statewide systems. The aim would be to coordinate center to center information concerning highways near state borders, including 550, 170 and 491. This project would also involve deploying additional DMS and coordinating DMS with other states to redirect traffic when passes or roads leading to other states are closed.
Navajo Nation Tribal Traffic Signal MaintenacePlannedMediumThis project would create an operational agreement to allow the City of Farmington to monitor and maintain traffic signals for the Navajo Nation.
NMDOT CCTVPlannedShortThis project would deploy CCTV on 550 north of Aztec, as well as on 516.
NMDOT DMS ExpansionPlannedShortThis project would install additional DMS at US 550, US 64 and NM 170
NMDOT RWISPlannedShortThis project would install RWIS to measure roadway surface conditions, including on bridges. The RWIS would be connected to a DMS to advise motorists about unsafe pavement conditions.
Regional Signal Control SystemPlannedShortThis project would allow the City of Farmington to remotely connect with City of Bloomfield and San Juan County signal systems.
Regional Transit InformationPlannedShortThis project would provide regional transit information onto Google Transit.
San Juan County Communications Authority Communications UpgradePlannedShortThis project will upgrade the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system for San Juan County, allowing the Communications Authority to automatically dispatch police and fire vehicles in the region.
San Juan Regional EMS AVL and GIS UpgradePlannedShortThis project would upgrade the AVL and GIS system for San Juan Regional EMS. In addition, it will allows San Juan EMS vehicles to send information to hospitals while en route.
Tablets on BusesPlannedShortThis project will install tablets on fixed-route buses to provide communications from dispatch to drivers.
